Notice that they just recite the mantra “safe and effective.” And the boldness to continue on even when the FDA is drawing attention to an actual safety signal. Which makes you wonder how this thing made it in the first place…like NGF inhibition is no joke. And if they are so inhumane as to keep this on the market…it is said that for those who mistreat animals so it goes for how people treat other people… “treating the pain associated with osteoarthritis” does NOT get to the root cause…just pain…along with a whole host of other side effects. There needs to be way better screening for even the drug targets just by themselves…there is a reason this was approved for veterinary…terrible.
I'm so sorry for your loss. That is heartbreaking. Please make sure you report to FDA and Zoetis. I know that it is no consolation but there are several class action lawsuits against Zoetis.
Our vet met us the next day (a Saturday) to put him down. Never said a word about the connection to the Librela. Charged me $330 for an off-day Euthanasia. Criminal.
Nan, They leave us soon enough but to have a pup pass from an intervention you had hoped for the best for your pup is heart breaking. Have a friend in the same situation as you. Her pup had 3 shots… and went down hill after each one. One shot as in your pup is a profound testament that this has to be pulled off the market.
Agree that you need to report this to both the FDA & the manufacturer. A record of events like this is important to have on record.
It has been 11 months and I no longer use this vet. Shouldn't the vet have reported this? Also, we agreed to the shot due his occasional spine problems. Will Zoetis come back with some retort such as "well your dog had a problem to begin with, so the shot wasn't the cause...
However his downturn was way worse immediately after the injection. I do not want to even describe what occurred when we brought him home; and that night. If I should I get in touch with this Zoetis (after reading their reply to the FDA), my heart and anger could not endure their bullshit.
What I did, early on after finding the FB page "Librela Experiences", was send out to everyone on my email list what our experience had been. Along with that email I included the link to the FB page. Most folks in my address book have dogs.
Engaging with Zoetis, who had no respect for the FDA, surely will have even less for me.
I feel the best that can be done is to share with as many people as possible,
particularly dog owners.
I can contact the FDA, after having this conversation. Thank you.
I know a few dogs treated…I saw them a year ago and then saw them again and was surprised at how much they were hobbling around. The problem is distinguishing the progression of OA vs what the drug is doing…the drug doesn’t target inflammation or immmune-mediated disease so there could be worsening of OA AND side effects. I’m not a vet, but work in vet diagnostics.
All this antibody does it block the pain signal from getting to the brain. If the animal doesn't feel pain it will run and jump which only exacerbates the underlying arthritic condition. It's a awful idea for managing osteoarthritis. They tried to get this approved for use in humans and couldn't get it past Phase 1 so they decided to give it to animals. Pure evil.
